About the position:

Are you a strategic and hands-on Senior Network Engineer who will take ownership of designing, implementing, and managing Snowy Hydro’s network infrastructure? A full-time role exists to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership in a dynamic environment, ensuring our networks are robust, scalable, and future-ready. Your expertise will drive innovation, enhance team capability, and ensure alignment with our evolving technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Engineering & Strategy: Drive the evolution of network and security policies, architecting and delivering resilient, high-performance networks that enable critical business outcomes. Evaluate and integrate emerging ICT trends to shape future-ready network architectures and standards.
  • Operations & Management: Maintain comprehensive documentation of multi-vendor, virtualised network environments. Oversee and perform proactive monitoring, diagnostics, problem rectification, and optimisation of network and security systems. Lead the integration, migration, and support of complex enterprise, voice, and SCADA/control networks.
  • Collaboration & Delivery: Provide expert oversight of architectural governance, assessing and mitigating risks across operational and project activities. Contribute to critical incident response, including participation in on-call support for high-priority systems and remote site failures.
  • Security & Resilience: Apply security expertise across multiple domains to strengthen network integrity, resilience, and compliance in complex environments.
  • Leadership & Capability Development: Inspire and mentor technical teams to build advanced capability in network design, security, and operational excellence, fostering a culture of resilience and continuous improvement.

About the location:

Cooma is our preferred location for this role, as the team typically spends 2–3 days per week working from the office. However, we welcome candidates who are located within a two-hour response time to Cooma and can commit to regular in-office attendance. About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in computer science or relevant industry experience.
  • 10 years of experience in complex IT infrastructure environments, including planning, implementation, operational management, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Advanced skill set in next-generation and/or zone-based firewalls, with vendor certifications in networking, routing, and switching (e.g., CCNP/CCIE).
  • Experience with network virtualization technologies such as MPLS and/or SPB, and cross-platform operating system skills including Unix.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to provide consultative solutions.
  • Demonstrable ability to contribute effectively in a fast-paced team environment, with highly developed influencing and negotiation skills.
  • An understanding of industrial/utility operating environments (SCADA, Controls, Protection) and the ability to align performance with business objectives.
  • ITIL qualifications and experience is an advantage.
