About the position:

The Lead Financial Accountant plays a key role in assessing complex accounting and/or non-routine transactions and ensuring compliant,  high-quality statutory and management reporting across the Group. The role also supports accounting for the energy portfolio, including derivatives and hedge accounting. Given the nature of the portfolio, strong technical knowledge in financial instruments and derivatives is essential. 

 

This is an 18 month maternity leave contract.

It is a hybrid position, with an expected minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will act as the Group’s technical accounting subject matter expert and provide accounting guidance across the business

  • You’ll lead and own the assessment and determination of appropriate accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions, including preparing technical papers to support key accounting positions in accordance with Group accounting policies and AASB/IFRS requirements

  • You will partner with the Retail division to understand and report key business drivers of C&I consumption and its impact on Snowy’s financial results

  • You will prepare monthly P&L summaries with detailed analysis, allowing stakeholders to better understand performance drivers

  • You’ll act as a key contact for external auditor requests and queries relating to net revenues, derivatives and hedge accounting

  • With exceptional attention to detail, you will lead the preparation and review of management and statutory reports, ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance with accounting standards and internal policies

  • You will support half year and year end financial reporting processes, including preparation and review of statutory financial reporting disclosures

  • You will lead the interpretation, impact assessment and implementation of new and amended accounting standards across the Group

About the location:

This position is based in Sydney CBD.

About you:

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge of AASB standards, particularly AASB 9 & 139, with experience in financial instruments, derivatives and hedge accounting, is essential for this role

  • You have significant experience in preparing and reviewing annual reports, board packs, and/or management reports

  • You bring 7-8 years PQE in financial, technical or management accounting

  • Experience gained within a Big 4 Audit/Advisory and/or an ASX listed company will be highly regarded

  • You have strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex accounting issues and translate into clear commercial outcomes

  • You are a strong communicator, both written and verbal. You’ll be liaising not only with colleagues and senior stakeholders, but auditors and executives

  • Although not a people leadership role, experience mentoring or supporting junior team members will be looked upon favourably
