Project Engineer

Business Unit:  Snowy 2.0
Date:  28 May 2026
Requisition ID:  922

About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

About the position:

Are you an engineer who loves the hands-on reality of bringing complex concrete structures to life?

We are looking for a dedicated Project Engineer to join the Snowy 2.0 Owner's Team. While this role sits within our broader tunneling and underground division, your core focus will be championing the structural backbone of the project: the Formwork, Reinforcement, and Pour (FRP) works.

You will be our eyes and ears on the ground, working side-by-side with contractors to ensure that the tunnel linings, cross passages, and underground structural elements are built to last. We aren't just looking for someone to tick compliance boxes; we want a proactive problem-solver who can spot constructability issues before they happen and help build a legacy asset that will power Australia for generations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Driving FRP Excellence: Oversee the intricate details of underground FRP works. You'll monitor formwork setup, rebar installation, and concrete pours (including tunnel segment installation) to ensure everything aligns perfectly with the latest design drawings
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Work collaboratively with the contractors on the ground. You'll constantly review construction methodologies, resource allocation, and progress to catch and resolve potential quality issues or delays before they impact the schedule.

  • Quality & Assurance: Be the champion for structural integrity. You'll manage Hold Points, Witness Points, and ITPs, ensuring that the concrete quality, curing processes, and materials meet our rigorous standards.

  • Ground & Environment Management: Work alongside our geotechnical experts to assess daily ground conditions and manage how tunnel water and spoil interact with our structural work areas.

  • Safety First, Always: Underground FRP involves complex logistics, heavy lifting, and tight spaces. You will lead by example, making sure safety plans are actively lived out so that everyone goes home safe at the end of the shift.

  • Keeping the Record Straight: Maintain clear, accurate, and up-to-date site records, daily reports, and photos, ensuring seamless communication through ACONEX.

About the location:

This role is located on site within the Snowy Mountains, working a 14/7 FIFO roster.

About you:

  • The Qualifications: A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, satisfying the requirements for Corporate Membership with Engineers Australia.

  • The Experience: At least 5 years of experience on large-scale civil or infrastructure projects, with a heavy emphasis on structural concrete, FRP, and tunnel linings.

  • The Technical Know-How: A deep, practical understanding of concrete placement in challenging environments, formwork systems, and rebar detailing. (Knowledge of broader underground techniques like TBM, Drill & Blast, or NATM is a massive plus).

  • A Collaborative Mindset: You know that building great infrastructure is a team sport. You have a knack for negotiating, influencing, and building strong relationships with both internal teams and contractor personnel.

  • Agility: Things change fast underground. You are adaptable, keeping a cool head and finding safe, constructive solutions when plans need to pivot
