A full-time position exists for a Senior Project Manager to join the Project Delivery Team in the Civil program of works stream.

About the position:

The purpose of the Senior Project Manager - Civil role is to lead the delivery of major civil capital projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budget, and quality standards, and to provide expert guidance and support to other Project Managers within the organisation. This role reports to the Program Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing projects from initiation to finalisation, encompassing planning, risk management, scheduling, budgeting and cost control, resource allocation, and execution.
  • Leading and motivating project teams, undertaking comprehensive project planning, and formulating detailed project management plans, governance strategies, timelines, budgets, and risk management approaches.
  • Providing mentorship, guidance, development, and support to other Project Managers, including sharing best practices, advising on processes, and assisting with issue resolution.
  • Reviewing project plans, schedules, and budgets developed by other project managers and providing constructive feedback, as well as offering advice and insights.
  • Monitoring project progress, identifying risks, adjusting plans as needed, and evaluating project outcomes against predefined metrics.
  • Ensuring continuous achievement of project objectives by regularly communicating project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues to the Program Delivery Manager.

About the location:

The primary base for this critical role is Cooma, the preferred location. However, we will also consider candidates based in Talbingo.

 

Cooma is situated on the Monaro Plains, it provides easy access to Kosciuszko National Park, offering year-round recreational opportunities such as skiing/snowboarding in winter (Thredbo and Perisher are accessible), hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and water sports in the warmer months. This role requires 100% site presence during a certain phase of project delivery. Outside of these phases, the role is hybrid with a minimum of 3 days required in an office.

About you:

  • Proven ability to lead large-scale, high-risk, and complex projects from initiation to finalisation. You must possess a Diploma in Project Management or at least 7 years of extensive experience managing multiple concurrent projects while navigating broader business drivers.
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, coupled with a strong background in heavy civil infrastructure and geotechnical support (such as bolting and ground support); additional expertise in understanding the technical and logistical complexities of live power stations or existing tunnel environments is highly preferred and will be considered a significant advantage.
  • Advanced skills in project planning, budgeting, and cost control. You will be responsible for developing robust governance strategies, performing risk assessments, and ensuring strict compliance with WHS, Safety in Design, and environmental standards.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and motivate project teams. This role acts as a key mentor, reviewing the plans and budgets of other project managers, sharing best practices, and providing constructive feedback to elevate the team’s overall performance.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills. You must be capable of managing relationships with internal teams, external vendors, and senior-level officers, as well as supervising external contractors and consultants through effective contract management.
  • The ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, whether on-site or remotely. You must be a measured and constructive leader who can quickly adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on safety, values, and true partnership.
