Senior Internal Communications Specialist (Snowy 2.0)

Business Unit:  Corporate Affairs, Community & Sustainab
Date:  4 Jun 2026
Requisition ID:  946

About Snowy:

Snowy Hydro is an Australian-owned, end-to-end energy company powering the nation’s transition to renewables. Our retail brands, Red Energy and Lumo Energy, proudly serve more than 1.6 million customers.

Our unique portfolio of on-demand assets combines hydro from the iconic Snowy Scheme and gas generation, together with growing investments in wind, solar and battery capacity.

Snowy 2.0 is the massive pumped hydro expansion to the Snowy Scheme. Acting as a giant battery, Snowy 2.0 will store enough renewable energy to power around 3 million homes for a week and more than half of the long-duration storage Australia needs to reach net zero by 2050.

About the position:

Snowy 2.0 is one of Australia’s most significant nation-building infrastructure projects, with a large and complex workforce operating across multiple employers, locations and rosters.

The Senior Internal Communications Specialist will play a critical role in supporting strategic and operational communications across the project, helping employees stay informed, safe and connected. The role will partner closely with Snowy 2.0 leadership, project stakeholders and delivery partners to strengthen team engagement and recognition of the project team’s work across the broader Snowy Hydro business.

This is a 2 year fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted communications business partner to Snowy 2.0 leadership, providing strategic internal communications advice and support.

  • Develop an internal communications strategy to keep the Snowy 2.0’s team informed, engaged and connected. This will involve tailoring communication approaches for a diverse workforce, including employees working on a 14/7 roster.

  • Communicate Snowy 2.0 milestones, project progress and team achievements through compelling storytelling.

  • Develop timely operational communications to support project delivery, including policy and procedure updates, training requirements, health and safety messaging and other workforce notices.

  • Collaborate with joint venture contractors and other project stakeholders to align messaging and communication activity across the broader Snowy 2.0 workforce.

  • Develop engaging content that connects employees across Snowy to the significance and progress of Snowy 2.0 and builds pride in this nation-building project.

  • Support external Snowy 2.0 communications and community activity during peak periods, working closely with the broader Corporate Affairs, Community & Sustainability team.

About the location:

The role is primarily based in Cooma. However, temporary relocation or fly-in, fly-out arrangements are available as an option if needed for the right candidate.

This is a hybrid role with a minimum 3 days in the Cooma office and on Snowy 2.0 project sites as required.

About you:

  • Significant experience in internal communications, ideally within a complex operational or infrastructure environment.

  • You’re equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves and doing operational communications as you are developing strategies and managing issues.

  • Demonstrated experience of providing strategic communications advice to senior leaders and project stakeholders.

  • Ability to translate complex, technical or operational information into clear, engaging communications.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations or a related field.

  • Experience supporting communication during project delivery, operational change and issues management.

  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills across a range of internal channels.

  • You’re proactive, collaborative and comfortable working in a fast-paced, complex project environment with competing priorities.
