The Role

As the Senior Environmental Advisor – Technical Lead, you will occupy a critical leadership position within the Snowy 2.0 Environmental team. This dual-purpose role focuses on providing high-level technical guidance to the Senior Environmental Advisor team while serving as the primary deputy to the Environment Manager, ensuring seamless operational support and strategic management.

This position is based in Cooma, with a generous relocation package available to support your move. For the right candidate, a FIFO 5:2 roster to Cooma is also an option.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Mentorship

Empower and Inspire: Lead and mentor an established team of four environmental specialists, fostering a culture of professional growth, high performance, and collaboration.
Technical Authority: Act as the primary technical sounding board and escalation point, guiding your team through complex environmental challenges.

Strategic Leadership & 2IC Responsibilities

Operational Lead: Serve as the 2IC to the Environment Manager, representing the department in senior leadership forums and engaging with key stakeholders.
Strategic Vision: Collaborate with internal and contractor teams to refine and evolve the Snowy 2.0 Environment Strategy.
Business Stewardship: Influence the project’s bottom line by supporting procurement programs, budget forecasting, and resource planning.
Compliance & Assurance: Lead the design and implementation of a rigorous environmental compliance framework, including oversight of independent audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Oversight & Project Delivery

Subject Matter Expertise: Provide high-level technical direction to ensure Snowy 2.0 maintains a gold standard in environmental management.
Regulatory Precision: Quality-assure project deliverables to ensure total alignment with both State and Commonwealth regulatory requirements.
Drive Innovation: Identify and implement efficiencies in environmental assurance to keep this landmark project at the forefront of the industry.

You'll Bring:

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related field, supported with demonstrated experience in mining, civil construction, or utilities. As an influential leader, you have a proven track record of managing senior professionals and cultivating a high-performing, collaborative team. You are a master communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for regulators and executives alike, backed by the strategic skills needed to build strong stakeholder relationships. Above all, you are a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and is committed to delivering high-quality results.
