We also provide electricity and gas to about 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

About the position:

Are you a seasoned project leader ready to move into a strategic Program Manager role? We're looking for an experienced Program Delivery Manager with considerable commercial expertise in managing complex contracts and programs to lead the planning and delivery of critical programs of work essential to the long-term reliability and availability of our core business assets. You'll need a strong drive for results balanced by a collaborative approach.

Lead the planning and delivery of programs focused on electrical, controls, and protection systems to meet the long-term operational reliability, efficiency, and grid synchronisation requirements for our heavy industrial power generation facilities (including hydro, gas, and diesel plants). This role includes leading a team of project managers to ensure these complex technological programs, which are vital for preventing forced outages and safeguarding key equipment, are delivered successfully.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Project Managers to plan and deliver a multi-year program of controls & protection or electrical work critical to long-term asset reliability and availability.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive program plans, defining scope, execution strategy, budget, and schedule in alignment with long-term business and strategic goals.
  • Maintain a strong, risk-based focus on safety, environment, and quality throughout the program lifecycle, ensuring success through control and assurance activities.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reports, proactively manage deviations from plan, and ensure clear communication and escalation of issues.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships with all internal stakeholders and strategically manage key contractors and sourcing decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of excellence by facilitating "lessons learnt" sessions, tracking live issues, and implementing improvements within project teams.
  • Efficiently optimise the allocation of project resources (staff and contractors) to effectively meet portfolio demands and deadlines.

About the location:

The preferred location for this role is Cooma, however we may consider candidates from other Hydro office locations such as Khancoban, or Talbingo. You'll be part of a dedicated local team delivering key engineering advice to support projects across all of Snowy Hydro’s existing assets. The role will also involve travel to sites across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia as required, providing diverse project exposure and the chance to work in a variety of environments.

About you:

  • Hold a Diploma in Project Management and/or possess a minimum of 5 years' extensive experience managing large-scale, complex, high-risk, and/or multiple controls and protection or electrical projects within heavy and capital-intensive industries.
  • A degree in Engineering with minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, or comparable relevant industry experience, or potentially gained through a trade qualification in an Electrical or Controls and Protection field.
  • Ability to read and understand work scopes, technical specifications and drawings and conceive suitable and safe methods to execute and complete works.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and govern a team of Project Managers, fostering a constructive culture and driving continuous improvement.
  • Possess considerable knowledge and skill in managing varied contract styles (e.g., fixed price, target cost, alliance), including strategic contractor negotiation and sourcing.
  • Exhibit a strong drive for results balanced with the ability to deliver outcomes in a constructive and collaborative manner across all stakeholder levels.
  • Expert in program governance, adopting a risk-based approach while maintaining a strict focus on WHS, Safety in Design, Environment, and Quality standards.
  • Experience in heavy industrial power generation facilities, penstocks, generators, turbines, switchboards, pumps, transformers, auxiliaries or controls and protection upgrades, is highly desirable.
  • Flexibility to travel across sites as required.
