About the position:

An exciting opportunity is available for a Lead Civil Asset Engineer to join Snowy Hydro’s Engineering team within Asset Management full-time. Reporting to the Manager – Asset Engineering & Integrity, this role is pivotal in supporting the long-term performance, safety, and capability of our civil infrastructure.


As the Lead Civil Asset Engineer, you will provide engineering advice and develop technical standards and strategies to guide the management of Snowy Hydro’s civil assets. You will also lead, coach, and guide a small team of civil engineers, playing a key role in shaping how the broader engineering team operates. This includes improving processes and ensuring a consistent, systematic approach to team and asset management.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Lead Civil Asset Engineer within the Engineering team, you'll be accountable for:

  • Technical Support & Asset Knowledge: Develop and maintain civil technical standards, ensure critical asset information is current, stay informed on industry practices, and provide expert technical and engineering advice on civil asset issues.
  • Asset Engineering & Management: Implement and continuously improve asset health and risk processes, contribute to change management, define requirements for civil asset improvements, and initiate projects aligned with asset management strategies.
  • Reliability Management: Facilitate civil asset reliability improvements, ensure effective and current maintenance strategies, and include identification of critical spares.
    Commercial & Regulatory Management: Engage and manage external partners, ensure commercial frameworks are in place, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Systems and Processes: Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of processes, tools, and systems relevant to the role and engineering function within the broader engineering team.
  • Asset Integrity (Life Cycle Integrity of Assets): Ensure technical regulatory requirements are included in management strategies, assess and control major civil asset risks, and lead integrity management programs for safe and reliable asset performance.
  • Civil Engineering Team Leadership: Lead and coach the civil engineering team in delivering core functions aligned with business priorities. Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the Asset Engineering and Integrity team.

About the location:

This role is preferably based in Cooma, though we are open to candidates based at any of our Snowy Mountains regional sites. Regular travel to Snowy Hydro assets is essential, so flexibility and a willingness to work across multiple locations are key. About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering with minimum of 5 years experience preferably in power generation and heavy industry environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of asset management, engineering design, fault finding, and/or maintenance and reliability principles.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex issues to influence a broad range of stakeholders and customers.
  • Able to quickly and effectively adapt to changing circumstances/business demands in a measured and constructive way.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the organisation.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and sound decision-making skills in ambiguous environments, navigating the challenges of a diverse and dynamic organisation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to remote and regional asset locations.
