The Role
Based in Cooma, the Environmental Advisor is the go-to compliance strategist. This pivotal generalist role is entrusted with securing project momentum by leading all environmental compliance efforts. Skillfully managing the full spectrum of on-site field work and head office strategy to lock down approvals and licenses, ensuring seamless, sustainable delivery.
This 2-year contract is based in Cooma (Monday–Friday). Relocation assistance is available if you're joining us from outside the region.
Key Responsibilities:

Supporting environmental compliance with tracking, reporting, and assurance program management.

Assisting with regulatory and stakeholder liaison and engagement.

Undertaking reporting to manage planning approvals, leases, licenses, and permits for Snowy 2.0 delivery.

Investigating environmental incidents to determine root cause and verify corrective actions.

Actively monitoring environmental risk to identify emerging threats and formulate outcome-focused responses.

Monitoring environmental initiatives for effectiveness and identify opportunities for adaptive management and continuous improvement.

Assisting with responses to external assurance activities, including audits.

Reviewing and providing compliance feedback on management plans, designs, and other submissions.

Drafting timely responses to contract notices and general correspondence.

Collaborating on continuous process improvement (e.g., data analysis, research, industry/regulator consultation) to enhance environmental performance.

Assisting site environmental assurance officers with assurance activities as required.
What You'll Bring
A Bachelor's degree in an environmental or related field and demonstrated experience in environmental compliance, ideally in mining, construction, or utilities. We're looking for a proactive, detailed communicator who can analyse problems, find innovative solutions, and ensure we comply with all environmental laws while building strong relationships with regulators and partners.
