About the position:

As a Lead Asset Specialist – Civil, you will play a critical role in the long-term performance and capability of Snowy Hydro’s infrastructure. You’ll lead the provision of civil engineering expertise across a range of assets, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and efficient for the future. This is a key technical leadership role, responsible for developing engineering strategies, maintaining standards, and mentoring civil engineering professionals, while collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical support and guidance to operational and maintenance teams on complex asset issues.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and drive improvements within Snowy Hydro.
  • Provide sound technical and engineering advice on asset issues, including troubleshooting and investigations.
  • Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Asset Health & Asset Risk processes.
  • Mentor and guide a team of civil engineers and technical specialists.
  • Act as the key technical liaison for civil engineering and maintenance contractors, and external suppliers, consultants, and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate effectively with broader Operations teams to ensure practical and safe engineering solutions.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with internal policies, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.

About the location:

This full time role is based out of our Cooma office, offering the opportunity to work in the heart of the Snowy Mountains region. You'll be part of a dedicated local team delivering key engineering advice to support projects across all of Snowy Hydro’s existing assets. The role will also involve travel to project sites across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia as required, providing diverse project exposure and the chance to work in a variety of environments.


Relocation support is available to those wanting to move to Cooma, NSW. 

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (a postgraduate qualification is highly regarded).
  • 7-10 years’ experience in a Civil engineering role within the power generation or heavy industrial sector, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Exceptional technical depth and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex, multi-faceted engineering problems. A strong track record of conducting complex engineering investigations and analysis, with demonstrable results.
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers or technical staff.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of conveying complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proactive and strategic thinker, able to anticipate future asset challenges and opportunities with existing aging assets.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • A meticulous and systematic approach to engineering, with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
  • Experience in infrastructure such as heavy industrial power generation facilities, hydraulic transfer systems (tunnels and aqueducts), penstocks, bridges, roads, and bank stabilisation is highly desirable.
    Ability to travel across sites as required.
