Plant Engineer Civil
About Snowy:
Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.
About the position:
We are seeking a Plant Engineer Civil to spearhead technical and engineering support for our regional maintenance function. In this role, you won't just be managing assets—you will be the driving force behind improving the health, reliability, and longevity of critical regional civil infrastructure (including roads, aqueducts, drainage systems, and intakes).
As a technical leader, you will bridge the gap between high-level engineering strategy and hands-on maintenance, mentoring teams on the ground while managing risks, defects, and minor improvement projects.
This is a full-time 100% site based, Drive-in Drive-Out (DIDO) role based in Cabramurra, with on-site accommodation and facilities provided. The position operates on an alternating 4-day work week roster (8 days per fortnight).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the regional subject matter expert. Coach, mentor, and upskill on-site maintenance teams to build overall engineering capability.
- Conduct site inspections and technical condition assessments. Evaluate current maintenance routines, identify improvement opportunities, and optimise asset longevity.
- Lead investigations into civil defects, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement proactive mitigation strategies for aging infrastructure to ensure maximum operational safety.
- Plan, manage, and execute minor civil maintenance projects. Supervise contractors and represent the region's interests in major capital project scope developments and design reviews.
- Ensure all activities align with technical standards and environmental management requirements. Partner closely with Regional Planning, Asset Engineering, and Dam Safety teams.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will bring a blend of strong technical expertise and excellent people skills:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Proven experience in asset condition assessments, interpreting complex technical drawings, and applying engineering standards to solve practical, real-world problems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor team members, fostering a collaborative and continuous-learning environment.
- High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven track record in technical report writing.
- A proactive mindset regarding risk management, defect investigation (Root Cause Analysis), and process optimisation.
- Ability to be pragmatic when developing scope of work(s) for the regional maintenance team to plan and execute.
- Any geotechnical related experience and/or accreditation will be highly favourable.
